My First Mother's Day

I'd like to begin this post by saying happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there, a specifically to my mom, my mother in law, my grandmas, and my sister (who is celebrating her first Mother's Day as well). I don't think I ever fully appreciated Mother's Day (or Father's Day) until this year. Being a parent is hard but it's also an incredible experience. So to all the mamas out there I just want to say you're doing a great job and you deserve this day of recognition and celebration.

I'm writing this post ahead of time but my plans for today are to have a low key day with Anthony and Hunter. There's a pizza place in town I've been wanting to try or maybe I'll stop by my new favorite bakery. I've been given free reign to celebrate however I want :) The most important thing to me is that I spend it with my two favorite guys!

I've thought a lot lately about the kind of mother I want to be. I hope to have a lot of the qualities my mother, my mother in law, my grandmothers, and my sister have as mothers. They're creative, nurturing, warm, supportive, inspiring, and they always give it their all. I hope I can be all of those things for Hunter. I know I'm not perfect, but I'll always give it my all for him.

What are your plans this Mother's Day?

Easter & Spring Cleaning

Hope you all had a good Easter! We definitely did! We had brunch at my parents where we saw my sister, brother in law, and my niece, my brother and his partner, as well as my grandparents. We didn't do an Easter egg hunt this year because my son and niece are still too young, but I did get a chocolate bunny so I was a happy girl! After brunch we visited my in laws. My father in law just had surgery so it was a quick visit so Hunter could spend time with both his grandparents on Easter. My mom always made sure holidays were very special when I was younger and I hope to do the same for Hunter. He won't remember his first Easter but it was important to Anthony and I that we spend the day with family to establish that tradition from the get go. It ended up being a really nice and low-key Easter.

Other than the Easter holiday life has been good. I'm still trying to get our house in order with any little free time I have but it's been a slow process. I keep telling myself I'll do it one room at a time to better see the progress I'm making but of course, it never works out that way. I just jump from room to room tackling little projects here and there. Although I'm doing something everyday I still have a to do list a mile long and I'm sure in reality I'll never actually be done because I'm always adding to the list. This week I've been focusing on the kitchen and the bathroom trying to organize and arrange things just so. Our house has very little storage space so having an organized home is a must!

I still have a lot of organizing and purging to do before I get our home to where I want it to be but I'm  happy with the progress I've made so far. Little by little I'm getting there :) I actually really enjoy spring cleaning. I think I've mentioned before that I prefer a tidy organized space but when it comes to spring cleaning I like to get some deep cleaning accomplished. Since we just moved there isn't too much actual cleaning to be done. The work that needs to be done around here is more like finding an appropriate spot for everything and getting rid of excess junk. So far I've focused more on finding a home for everything and not as much on purging and donating. That will be phase two ;) We got rid of a little bit here and there before moving but ended up not having enough time to be as thorough as needed.

Anyone else doing spring cleaning/organizing?
I'd love to hear tips or your process for achieving a more organized and tidy space!

Halloween Gender Reveal

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween! We had especially big plans this year because we decided to have a Halloween Gender Reveal party to announce what our little one's sex will be. My parents throw a costume party nearly every Halloween and my husband and I thought it would be a super fun way to find out the gender of our baby. A few weeks back when we had our ultrasound we asked the technician to write the gender down and seal it in an envelope instead of telling us, and we took that envelope to our bakery at Naegelin's Bakery in New Braunfels. It was really hard not to peek into that card but we stayed strong and found out yesterday with all our loved ones that we will be having a little boy! My mom organized the whole party and made all the decorations and truly made this an unforgettable day for us! It was so much fun finding out this way and definitely made this our most memorable Halloween to date. We are going to name our little one Hunter Michael Avery and I am so excited to start planning our his nursery more and go crazy on my baby shower registry! :P

Hope you had as amazing of a Halloween as we did this year!
October was really a whirlwind of a month and this truly was the only fitting way to end it. I'm so excited for November to see my bump grown, celebrate my birthday, and gather for Thanksgiving with friends and family. Can't believe November is already here, but so excited about it at the same time :)

Independence Day

Cardigan, Earrings, & Flats: Target // Dress: JcPenney // Belt: From another dress

This summer is just flying by! I can hardly believe the fourth of July is already here!
I wanted to put together a festive outfit for today and although I wish I had a red cardigan to go with this dress I like how this look came out. It's festive without being too obvious.  It's hard to wear red, white, and blue without looking like an American flag, and I think this look is a subtle nod at the holiday.
I don't have anywhere to wear this look to, but that's okay! I'm just hoping to spend some time with the hubby grilling and relaxing and possibly watching fireworks from out patio. Sounds like the perfect low-key fourth of July to me :)
What are you plans for the 4th?

Happy Valentine's Day

I wanted to share something today since it's a holiday but I don't have many past Valentine's outfits to do a round up of, so instead I thought I'd share some of my past outfits that would be perfect to wear on this romantic day no matter what your plans are, or the weather you're having to endure :)

Nothing feels more appropriate on Valentine's Day to me than red and pink hues and pretty florals.
Plus I'm super excited to start working floral clothing back into rotation (I'm probably jumping the gun but I'm getting excited for spring and wearing floral prints is a great way to ease into it).
So what do you wear to celebrate on Valentine's Day?

Get Ready For Valentine's Day

While my husband I do like to celebrate Valentine's Day we don't usually go about it in the typical sense. If you've followed HN for a while you already know that I like to make things at home whenever possible. Valentine's Day is no different! While I'm not opposed to heart shaped chocolate boxes or store bought roses I do have a few ways to make your Valentine's Day a bit more homemade.

This garland will take you a little time to make but you can decorate with it year after year,
Plus nothing says Valentine's Day like pink and red hearts!

This fudge is delicious and takes barely and time, and only a few ingredients to make. You could even use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to make the fudge even more appropriate for Valentine's Day.

This wall art takes minutes to make and is another decoration you can display every Valentine's Day for years to come!

Substituting cranberries for the raisins make oatmeal cookies the perfect festive treat.

These romantic doilies make cute table decor or can be used as coasters as well, and you can make them in any color you fancy.

These blondies are the perfect dessert for your sweetie. Nothing is more romantic that homemade treats!

I hope this list gave you some ideas on how to make a more homemade Valentine's Day!
How do you celebrate this romantic day?

Happy New Year

Always a day late and a dollar short, but better late than never, right?
As I've said time & time again, I am not a goal setter. It's not that I don't achieve the things I want, it's that I don't like the added pressure. There are a lot of things I wish to happen in the coming year, but I've always had the mentality that everything happens for a reason, & what happens, happens. So instead of sharing some goals or resolutions for the new year I thought I'd look back at some of the amazing things I was fortunate enough to experience in 2014.

This past year I...
Traveled to Cozumel & the Yucatan where I got to see Chichen Itza.
Explored my own city and visited The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower center
Started sharing more regular outfit photos.
Celebrated my second wedding anniversary, and nine years together with my husband.
Was nominated for the Leibster Award.
Worked with some awesome companies in my first collaboration experience.
Began a new remix series.
Made some really awesome diy projects, including a pretty floral crown, some easy abstract art, and a weaving or two.
Made some new recipes like these chicken parmesan meatballs, and these delicious blondies.
I also celebrated my husband graduating from college, and finding out I'm going to be an aunt this coming summer.

2014 was a really good year, but now I'm looking forward to making 2015 an amazing year too.
How was your 2014?

10 Ways To Get Into The Christmas Spirit

While I love the holiday season I know that not everyone has an easy time getting ready for Christmas. It's true this time of year can be pretty stressful. So in case you need a little help getting in the Christmas spirit I've gathered up ten ways to help you get there.

1. Bake something
Try these cranberry pistachio cookies. They're delicious and even look festive!

2. Paint your nails red (or green)!
I love this shade from Wet n' wild.

3. Watch Christmas movies.
My favorite movies to watch during the holiday season are How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Year Without a Santa Claus, and Elf.

5. Dress Festive.
Incorporate red or green into your outfits. If that's a little much for your liking try wearing something plaid :)

6. Make Paper Snowflakes.
This is the perfect activity for little one's or if you're in need of some inexpensive holiday decor.

7. Check out Christmas Lights.
One of my favorite activities this time of year is driving around and looking at Christmas lights in my neighborhood.

8. Drink Hot Cocoa.
Nothing puts me in the Christmas spirit like hot cocoa. Try making homemade marshmallows to make your cocoa extra fancy.

9. Make an Advent Calender or Paper Chain to Count Down.
This is another great project for kids and there are so many different options.

10. Listen to Christmas Carols.
Listening to and singing Christmas carols is probably the most traditional way of spreading Christmas joy, whether it's the classics or new versions of old favorites.

Well I hope this list helped get you a little bit more ready for the holidays.

November's Eve

Hat & Jeans - Target (jeans diy)
Scarf - A gift from my grandma
Top - gap (old)
Boots & necklace - JcPenney

I seriously can't believe it's already Halloween. Where did October go? I feel like I go through this every month but these last few weeks were a total blur, which is unfortunate since this is my favorite time of year. I had plans to show how I diy'd my Halloween costume and had also hoped to take outfit photos at a cemetery but time just got away from me. I am attending a costume party tonight though so I will definitely share pictures from that soon.
Hope you all have a super fun & safe Halloween!

Happy Halloween

Well Halloween is almost here, so what better time to share a few pictures from past year's Halloweens. I don't always dress up but I always try to keep things festive because Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. In recent years I was a Black Cat and The Queen of Hearts. Last year I failed to dress up (although many people pointed out I could have easily been minnie mouse with a few added accessories), but this year I will be attending a costume party so I've come up with a easy semi-homemade costume I'll share here soon. How are you celebrating this year?
