Fancy Casual

  This is one of those outfit that is really simple but somehow still makes me feel very put together. Midi skirts have that effect on me. They are both modest and chic. If you don't have a midi skirt already I strongly recommend adding one to your closet. I found this one thrifting and it's proved to be a really great purchase. 

This shirt is a recent purchase from Target. I bought it to replace another striped shirt I've had for years and I am just so in love with this top. I love black and white stripes anyway but the fit of this shirt is just perfect and I love that it has a sort of high neckline.

Old Faithful

 The first time I wore a T-shirt dress I fell in love. I have always been somewhat of a tomboy at heart so I've always had a love for T-shirts. Those two things go hand in hand, right? Well T-shirt dresses are just like T-shirts, but, and this is the best part, you don't have to wear pants. Awesome right? This is only my second T-shirt dress, but I wouldn't mind adding quite a few more to my collection.

If you find a good T-shirt dress, (like this one) you can easily wear it casual or dressy. I went for my usual sort of casual, but add some heels and some statement jewelry and this is perfect for a night out.

Dresses like this one are also perfect for layering, so they're transition great into colder months just by adding a cardigan and tights. Another plus is that since this dress is neutral I can easily pair it with any combination of colors. This time I decided to keep things simple and go with an all neutral outfit.

Summertime Adventures

 I'm still not sure if it's officially summer yet or not, but school is out and the temperatures in Texas are summer ready. I have always loved summer but this summer I am even more anxious because my husband and I have made a goal to get the most out of this summer that we can. We kicked things off last month with our first coast trip of this summer. This month we have been doing our best to enjoy time outside in Austin. These photos were snapped at The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on a recent visit (I'll be sharing a TON of pictures from the center soon because it was so beautiful!).

It felt really great to get some fresh air and enjoy a really beautiful day. The wildflower center was an ideal place to take outfit photos as well with all of the beautiful scenery, but because of the time of day it was so so bright. Lucky for me there are also a lot of shady trees perfect for snapping pictures under. Plus, because I left without outfit photos in front of wildflowers I have an excuse to go back soon ;)

Playing Favorites

 I was lucky enough to get to go thrifting right after I got back from being on vacation. Talk about getting spoiled huh? ;) The best part was that I found some really awesome stuff that has been on my 'to thrift' list, like this olive green, cargo style pencil skirt. Basically I found my dream skirt, and it cost me $5.99. Totally worth it.

  I also found this striped shirt, which it may seem silly for me to pick up yet another black and white striped shirt, but this one has a really cute detail on the back... which I forgot to take pictures of, ha! Next time, I promise!

Some Spring & Summer Essentials

 I have been sort of slacking in the outfit posts lately. Sorry, April has just really gotten away from me. Also The only things I feel like wearing are super simple and mostly based on their comfort. Today I felt inspired by all the kimonos I've been seeing on my pinterest feed.

 This "kimono" is actually a dress I thrifted. I've worn it before, here and here.

The thing is I've always thought it was a bit on the short side and since it has buttons up the front it works perfectly as a kimono type cardigan. I could even add lace or tassels to the bottom to really make it look more like a kimono, maybe I will try that if I thrift another one.

 The thing is my husband did look at me a bit strange when he saw this outfit at first so if I'm totally not pulling this off definitely let me know now. Thanks friends ;)

 I actually really ended up liking this outfit, so simple, yet perfect for spring and completely comfortable. Definitely my type of outfit. Plus it's half thrifted, so I'm a happy girl.

Simple Doesn't Mean Boring

 First of all, I can hardly believe that it's April already. I think March may have been the quickest month ever, it was sort of a blur. I'm hoping that April makes things slow down a bit so I can enjoy some spring flowers and beautiful weather. I'm also hoping to fit in a bit more spring cleaning.

 For me spring cleaning is all about simplifying things and getting rid of excess junk. I've been trying to apply this principle of spring cleaning and simplifying to everything this spring including my wardrobe. It's become pretty apparent to me that I've gone through a bit of a style change. I'm drawn more and more to classic and simple pieces. I've always thought that simple pieces were kind of boring, and it wasn't until recently that I realized how simple and classic pieces are essential to a great wardrobe.

 I tend to think of simple/classic wardrobe pieces as items that can be worn almost year round, and stay in style year after year (like a white button-up). They are the items that are usually referred to as foundation pieces and can be accessorized and styled hundreds of different ways.

  For example, I thrifted this skirt recently and think it will get a lot of use this spring and summer because it is so simple and versatile. It is a black denim high-waisted skirt with belt loops, pockets, and a front button-up closure. You can't go wrong with black. I  love that it has pockets (duh), and the buttons add another cute detail that appeal to my personal taste.

This shirt is also another example of a simple item that is anything but boring. I love how it looks a bit nautical when paired with this button up skirt, but is actually a very simple classic top.

My hope is that by filling my closet with classic items, I will be able to remix them in countless ways and have a wardrobe with more depth. I also hope that be choosing pieces that are somewhat classic that they can be worn year after year.

Almost There...

 Today really felt like spring. I bought a new basil plant yesterday and we repotted it today. It has us both excited to start our patio garden up again. Plus the weather has been so beautiful we've opened all the windows and our patio door. Zane and Murray have been thoroughly enjoying it. It feels like winter is definitely on its way out in Texas and we are embracing it fully.

 I have been taking any opportunity possible to spend time outdoors and I'm loving being able to wear dresses without tights, and even go sleeveless and be completely comfortable. I don't know that I've ever been so excited for spring before and maybe it's because winter makes you stir crazy, but I've got a ton of ideas and inspiration for this spring. There's so many things on my to do list this season that I'm excited to document here along the way.

Signs of Spring

Your eyes do not deceive you, those are sandals on my feet. That's right you guys, spring is on it's way in. Or at least I'm going to start pretending it's spring anyway. I'm still not ready for shorts (maybe next week?), so sandals it is. Baby steps.

 This outfit was actually inspired by this pin. I don't have a leopard scarf like the girl in the pin, so I opted for this striped beige cardigan for a little bit of a pattern in an otherwise pretty simple outfit.

Oh but I love simple, and I really love white with olive green.

 This white top was thrifted awhile back. I just had to grab it when I saw the crocheted neckline. The glasses were also thrifted. Literally everything else is from JCP. 

 I must confess that this is the only white top I own. I actually really like white clothing and I've been drooling over pins with white jeans like crazy, but I'm one of those people who really can't be trusted with white clothing. I'm sort of surprised I haven't stained this one yet... may have jinxed myself there.

I'm gonna try to incorporate more white into my wardrobe because it's just so perfect for spring.
