Old Faithful

The first time I wore a T-shirt dress I fell in love. I have always been somewhat of a tomboy at heart so I've always had a love for T-shirts. Those two things go hand in hand, right? Well T-shirt dresses are just like T-shirts, but, and this is the best part, you don't have to wear pants. Awesome right? This is only my second T-shirt dress, but I wouldn't mind adding quite a few more to my collection.

If you find a good T-shirt dress, (like this one) you can easily wear it casual or dressy. I went for my usual sort of casual, but add some heels and some statement jewelry and this is perfect for a night out.
Dresses like this one are also perfect for layering, so they're transition great into colder months just by adding a cardigan and tights. Another plus is that since this dress is neutral I can easily pair it with any combination of colors. This time I decided to keep things simple and go with an all neutral outfit.

I may have to start referring to these types of dresses as my old faithfuls because I can always rely on a good T-shirt dress. What is your favorite go to clothing item?

Lazy Daze

I'm definitely one of those people who likes to be lazy and kick back and relax while on vacation. This is pretty typical of what I like to wear while relaxing. I love when things are no fuss, and it doesn't get much more low maintenance than denim cut-offs and a T-shirt.

As you can see I didn't even bother with shoes, that's just how I roll. I figured I made up for it with adding on some extra accessories in the straw hat and some retro inspired shades. I am still all about simple outfits, but I love having fun with my sunglasses.

T-shirt - Target
Cut-offs - Thrifted
Sunglasses - Papaya

March On

Since this winter has decided to stick around for so long I've had time to spend on indoor activities. I obviously enjoy doing craft projects and cooking, but lately I have been spending a lot of time playing my WiiU, trying to get back into doing yoga regularly, and catching up on all my favorite TV shows.

It's not that I don't love wasting hours playing Super Mario 3D World, or watching House Of Cards, but there's only so long until you begin to get stir crazy, plus you eventually beat the game and finish the second season and you're back to square one.

So I'm back to counting the days until warmer weather arrives. My husband and I have begun looking forward to coast trips, and are even discussing garden plans again. I know it's probably only a matter of weeks now until spring comes to Texas and that couldn't make me any happier.

This dress is definitely more suited for warmer temperatures. It's actually navy and mint stripes (although these pictures make it a little hard to see the little mint stripes), and was thrifted sometime last month. I knew it would be a great summer dress because it just looks a bit nautical. I've been a bit perplexed on how to style it for colder temperatures until I remember I had this lovely navy cotton blazer from JCP that goes with it so perfectly. I added the gray knee-highs more out of necessity from the cold, and finished the outfit off with my brown oxfords and matching brown belt, all from Target.

So although the only thing I can think about or focus on is spring, I just have to keep my eyes forward, and continue on.

Neutral Zone

I think I've mentioned my love of neutrals before, and this outfit is a great example of that.
I kept things mostly monochromatic except for the chambray dress (worn as a skirt), which is still a neutral to me.

By the way if you're sick of seeing this hat, then you should know it's quickly become a favorite item in my closet, so it's going to show up pretty often. Sorry, I'm not sorry. I definitely wouldn't mind adding more wide brimmed hats to my hat collection though.

The same should be said for these thrifted loafers and belt. They've become my favorites in no time.
This lace shirt with the peter pan style collar is a bit old, from Kohls. The cardigan, knee high socks, and hat are all from Target.

I have a feeling I will be wearing some version of this a lot this spring. I love layering shirts over dresses, and this dress is perfect for it.
On a side note you may have noticed my hair has lightened quite a bit since I dyed it back in November. I've resisted dying it because I'm trying to restore it's health and it's already come a long way. I may have to do a proper post to update what I've been using on my hair lately... we'll see.

Also today is my big sister's birthday. I don't get to see her as often as I'd like but I miss her like crazy. Happy Birthday Erin, I love you! :)

Lack of Color

I was looking through the outfits I've shared so far this year and I was pretty surprised to see such a lack of color. I haven't really been shy about the fact I've been loving neutrals lately, but I love color too! I've never been big on loud or bright colors, I guess I'm just more of a pastel person.

Something about pastels has always seemed a bit more understated and feminine.
Mint is by far my very favorite pastel shade, but I've come to realize I'm drawn to most pastel shades. Pastel pink is the only pink I like. Pastel yellow is just so cheery. Just trust me when I say pastel colors are easier to wear if you're a neutral lover like me.

This mint shirt from JCP was one of my first pastel purchases, it's easy to dress up or dress down, and duh, it's mint. This cardigan from Target is one of my favorite sweaters to pair with mint, the colors look so good together and the polka dots make it even more fun!

My pastel orange sunglasses are also from Target, but I've already spotted some at Goodwill while thrifting. They're some of my favorite sunglasses because the orange is light enough to almost seem neutral, thus they go with nearly everything.

The gray jeans are an old pair from Old Navy that I've had since my high school days. I love having gray jeans because they're a fun neutral to swap out instead of blue jeans. If you don't already own a pair definitely take the plunge. Gray jeans are a bit easier to dress up than blue jeans and they go with everything!
What are your favorite pastel shades?

Spotty Record

Well winter finally found Texas. We've been dealing with a lot colder temperature than any one around here is used to. We even saw a little bit of snow, (more like sleet, but to us that is snow). Needless to say I have been living in jeans instead of dresses. I have been putting all my favorite jeans through the regular rotation when I pulled out these gray and white polka dotted jeans I purchased from Target last year. I've only worn them on the blog once, but it was a bit before I began sharing regular outfit posts, so I decided to incorporate them into a more recent outfit.

As with most outfits I've been wearing lately I wanted to keep things comfortable and simple. What better way to do that than by pair these polka dotted pants with a simple beige sweater (also from target),  and even more simple black ankle boots (from JCP).

I also had to add in my lovely rust coat for both color and warmth, (from JCP last year). Outfits like this usually ending up being my favorites because I love no fuss comfort. I felt perfectly put together, and still feminine, but true to my tomboy roots.

How have you been coping with these colder temps?

Winter Grunge

This time of year when it's chilly outside I find it hard not to resort back to my old tom boyish ways. I just love T-shirts and jeans and I always will. Throw in some boots, flannel, and my husband's beanie and I'm one happy girl!

What's the one thing that could make me like this outfit even more? The fact that the beatles T-shirt, black flannel button-up, and the olive anorak style coat are all thrifted items.

The jeans are my favorite pair from JCP and the brown lace-up boots are from Target.
This type of layered outfit is my favorite easy weekend type wear in the winter. You can take the coat off when you're inside and you're still comfortable!

Band of Horses

I found this lovely little horse print dress on my last thrifting adventure. I was initially drawn to it because of the peter pan collar because I very rarely find anything with pretty collars in thrift stores. As it turns out the dress is pretty new, originally from Target, it even had the tag still on it. The cashier was even jealous of my awesome find.

I don't own a lot of clothing in colors that match the colorful horses in the print though so I ended up going with a sort of neutral outfit, which I've been preferring to do a lot lately. I ended up thinking with all the neutrals, and blue-ish gray tones that my outfit felt very "winter" so I was happy with that outcome.

The dress and loafers were both thrifted from Goodwill. The cardigan is from Target, the tights are from Walmart, and the belt was from a different dress.

Even though I love my horse print dress I did find myself feeling disappointed I didn't post a more festive outfit so I will really challenge myself to do better next time.
(New levels of coolness over here right now).

Back to Basics

I should have just titled this post my favorite thrifted pieces because I decided to include some of my top favorite thrifted pieces into this outfit that showcases basics don't have to be boring.
You probably already know a few of the pieces I'm talking about. My belt of course. I don't think I've shared a post recently that I wasn't wearing it in. I'm not even sorry. This belt is awesome. I do need to keep my eyes out for a good black belt though. For whatever reason I don't have one.

Anyway, back to things I do have, and more to the point the things I have in these photos ;)
Next on my favorite thrifted things list is this black and white shirt I'm wearing. I've shared it on here before because, well, I'm a sucker for black and white anything and this shirt is really comfortable and a favorite for layering. I threw it on top of another favorite thrifted find, this gray cotton dress. I finished it with this denim button up shirt I bought from walmart.

The purse is the last favorite thrifted aspect of this outfit. It was found while thrifting in Corpus Christi but it is originally from New York Co. It cost me $3.99!

The shoes are another favorite item but they weren't thrifted. They were a gift, but originally are from JCPenney.  Each of these pieces on their own are really great basic pieces. An outfit like this is just effortless for that reason. What are some of your must have basics?

Until Next Time,
