Take A Chance

I'm not usually one to grab the sleeveless, kinda short, kinda tight dress, but the print on this dress got me, and I thought why not? I've always been a bit self conscious about my body but I definitely shouldn't let that stop me from buying a dress I like. I have to say that I'm glad that I did because I ended up really liking how this outfit looks, it feels very me. It's got a boho type print, tons of neutrals, and a little bit of thrifted something. I also curled my hair for the first time in forever and I missed it so so much.

I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone a little bit because I know this dress will end up being a really great piece for wearing leggings this fall and winter. I love light-weight dresses for transitioning into cooler weather because they are just too easy to layer with!

I also think it will be perfect for wearing over my swimsuit this summer. It turns out that taking a chance on this dress may have really paid off. This really makes me reconsider other items I may have looked over in this past... I'm one of those people who always passes up something and later wishes I hadn't.

Different Names For The Same Thing

So it should be no secret by now that I love this color combination. I seriously can't get enough of it. I want an olive shirt and olive shorts so I can assemble more outfits with the same color combination. It's safe to say I'm a bit obsessed. I even found the perfect pair of high-waisted olive green shorts but they were too small, so the hunt continues.

This black dress is actually one of my all time favorite purchases. It has a great shape for my body type, works well year round, and goes with everything. It is one of my favorite dresses for layering as well. I love simple black dresses and wouldn't mind adding another to my closet as they as timeless and super versatile.

I also wanted a chance to wear these olive tights again before it gets too warm for them ;)

One Step Forward, & Two Steps Back

Well I spoke too soon. I had to open my big mouth about spring being here and so of course it's gotten chilly yet again. That's the way things go I suppose. I always find a way to jinx myself.
It's actually been windy and raining off and on too. I really can't complain because I actually like overcast rainy days. They're perfect for cuddling up with Zaney and Murray and catching up on all my recorded TV shows.

Regardless of the weather I convinced my husband to snap a few pictures outside again although only a few were even usable because it was so windy. I don't mind rocking the windblown look though so it all worked out in the end. As far as clothing goes I've been craving simplicity.  I decided to wear this shirt to add a little more interest to an otherwise very simple outfit.

So I guess I'll just keep cuddling with my pets and spending lazy days in bed until Spring decides to finally show up, darn. ;)

Signs of Spring

Your eyes do not deceive you, those are sandals on my feet. That's right you guys, spring is on it's way in. Or at least I'm going to start pretending it's spring anyway. I'm still not ready for shorts (maybe next week?), so sandals it is. Baby steps.

This outfit was actually inspired by this pin. I don't have a leopard scarf like the girl in the pin, so I opted for this striped beige cardigan for a little bit of a pattern in an otherwise pretty simple outfit.
Oh but I love simple, and I really love white with olive green.

This white top was thrifted awhile back. I just had to grab it when I saw the crocheted neckline. The glasses were also thrifted. Literally everything else is from JCP.

I must confess that this is the only white top I own. I actually really like white clothing and I've been drooling over pins with white jeans like crazy, but I'm one of those people who really can't be trusted with white clothing. I'm sort of surprised I haven't stained this one yet... may have jinxed myself there.

I'm gonna try to incorporate more white into my wardrobe because it's just so perfect for spring.
Which means you may be seeing a lot of this top. Sorry in advance ;)

Neutral Zone

I think I've mentioned my love of neutrals before, and this outfit is a great example of that.
I kept things mostly monochromatic except for the chambray dress (worn as a skirt), which is still a neutral to me.

By the way if you're sick of seeing this hat, then you should know it's quickly become a favorite item in my closet, so it's going to show up pretty often. Sorry, I'm not sorry. I definitely wouldn't mind adding more wide brimmed hats to my hat collection though.

The same should be said for these thrifted loafers and belt. They've become my favorites in no time.
This lace shirt with the peter pan style collar is a bit old, from Kohls. The cardigan, knee high socks, and hat are all from Target.

I have a feeling I will be wearing some version of this a lot this spring. I love layering shirts over dresses, and this dress is perfect for it.
On a side note you may have noticed my hair has lightened quite a bit since I dyed it back in November. I've resisted dying it because I'm trying to restore it's health and it's already come a long way. I may have to do a proper post to update what I've been using on my hair lately... we'll see.

Also today is my big sister's birthday. I don't get to see her as often as I'd like but I miss her like crazy. Happy Birthday Erin, I love you! :)

Try Something Different

Well the winter weather has gone for now and I decided to take this opportunity to wear an outfit with bare legs again for the first time in a while. I also didn't have to wear a cardigan for the first time in months. This definitely has me ready for spring if I wasn't already. I've found the perfect pink lipstick too, it's like all the stars are in line for spring.

I, of course couldn't be any happier. I'm so ready for fresh fruit all the time, working on my herb garden, and adding new cacti and succulents to my patio garden. Ready to spend more time outdoors with my husband and pup. There are so many things I'm looking forward to this spring, and this little bit of warmth has probably gotten me a bit of excited, but I don't care. I've decided to enjoy it while I can.

This dress is definitely a bit more of a warm weather dress. I thrifted it recently but had my doubts about if  it was my style or not. I ended up taking the chance because it fits me so well and I'm pretty happy I did. It seems to be a great dress for dressing up or down. I obviously went a little bit more casual today but it has a lot of potential for a more formal look too.

I went for my spring/summer bandana staple and my neutral booties from Target.
At first I was a little bit unsure about these boots, they were my first ankle boots, and I decided to take a chance with them. Initially they sat in my closet because I wasn't sure how to wear them. Over time, and after trying them with several different kinds of outfits, I've grown to love them. These boots have turned out to be such a great purchase. They go with everything, dresses or jeans, black or brown.  Plus they're comfortable, so of course, I'm happy.

Have you ever taken a chance and had it pay off?

All Good Things

I have a rare Sunday off of work today and I have been making the most of it. I slept in, and plan on having a lazy day. Those truly are the best sort of Sundays, and mine are few and far between.
I decided to celebrate the occasion by wearing a dress despite the ridiculously cold temperatures.

I love this dress and have had it for a while although I've only shared an outfit with it once. The fit of this dress is just amazing and the pattern is a perfect simple geometric print. I had to add these orange cable knit tights to keep myself from shivering!

The beige cardigan, mineral necklace, and hat are all from Target. The loafers are thrifted.

I really love how this outfit has a lot of color and texture but is otherwise pretty simple. These sort of outfits are definitely my favorites.

Time to get back to being lazy and relaxing, and yes, watching the super bowl.
Happy Sunday,

Spotty Record

Well winter finally found Texas. We've been dealing with a lot colder temperature than any one around here is used to. We even saw a little bit of snow, (more like sleet, but to us that is snow). Needless to say I have been living in jeans instead of dresses. I have been putting all my favorite jeans through the regular rotation when I pulled out these gray and white polka dotted jeans I purchased from Target last year. I've only worn them on the blog once, but it was a bit before I began sharing regular outfit posts, so I decided to incorporate them into a more recent outfit.

As with most outfits I've been wearing lately I wanted to keep things comfortable and simple. What better way to do that than by pair these polka dotted pants with a simple beige sweater (also from target),  and even more simple black ankle boots (from JCP).

I also had to add in my lovely rust coat for both color and warmth, (from JCP last year). Outfits like this usually ending up being my favorites because I love no fuss comfort. I felt perfectly put together, and still feminine, but true to my tomboy roots.

How have you been coping with these colder temps?
