Summer Ready

I really can't believe it's June. How are we almost midway through 2014? When did this happen, and how didn't I notice? Has time always moved this fast or does it gain momentum as you age? 

I just really can't believe how quickly May went by. It was a fast month for sure, but I'm really looking forward to this summer.

Some of my goals for this summer are to spend as much time by the pool as I can, grill as much as possible, and just spend a lot of time outside in general. It can get pretty hot in Texas during the summer so I'm determined to get as much out of June as I can ;)

Flora

 What better way to truly celebrate spring than wearing flowers in your hair, right? I am so in love with my new floral crown I plan on wearing it all season long. I love how bright and cheery flowers are and that's much needed after such a long winter. I'm just flower crazy right now, I want floral print everything, and flowers everywhere. My poor husband, ha!

 I guess in someway I was always a flower person although I sort of resisted it at first as I never really thought of myself as a girly girl. It began with floral pillows and and home decor things, and then came the flower tattoos, floral dresses, and I even had flowers in my hair on my wedding day.

The natural beauty of flowers just amazes me. My favorites lately have been daisies, so simple and pretty.

Get Outside!

  We are loving every minute of spring so far around here. We've been opening the windows and our patio door and enjoying the beautiful weather as much as we possibly can. It feels like we waited forever to get here and I don't want to take it for granted. One of my favorite things about the past few weeks has been watching everything come back to life. Our garden is slowly growing and wildflowers have started covering the roadsides.

When you grow up in Texas it's almost a requirement that you take pictures in bluebonnets that grow wild everywhere. They've been blooming recently and it reminded me of taking pictures in them with my brother and sister when were kids. I may have to find a few of those old pictures the next time I visit my parent's house because I can't see the wild flowers without thinking of them. Maybe I can even get a few new ones for old time's sake.

Different Names For The Same Thing

 So it should be no secret by now that I love this color combination. I seriously can't get enough of it. I want an olive shirt and olive shorts so I can assemble more outfits with the same color combination. It's safe to say I'm a bit obsessed. I even found the perfect pair of high-waisted olive green shorts but they were too small, so the hunt continues.

  This black dress is actually one of my all time favorite purchases. It has a great shape for my body type, works well year round, and goes with everything. It is one of my favorite dresses for layering as well. I love simple black dresses and wouldn't mind adding another to my closet as they as timeless and super versatile.

Winter Essentials

 So I have to admit that since I've lived in Texas my whole life my version of winter is pretty different from what most people consider winter. Texas usually has pretty mild winters. My closet reflects this. Most of my wardrobe is a bit more warm weather friendly and it has been a fun challenge to make things transition into fall, and now into this freezing winter weather. I've been able to this achieve by adding in some great cold weather essentials.

 You may have noticed that I've been wearing these black ankle boots from JCP constantly. They have definitely been my go to shoes this winter. I've also been wearing this geometric print shawl cardigan around my apartment a lot too because it's so cozy!

My favorite cold weather accessory has been this hat from Target. I probably wear it too often. It made me fall in love with all sorts of hats. Now I want more wide brim hats and a bowler hat too!

 I also finally thrifted a woven black belt just like my favorite cognac thrifted belt, so I have no doubt you'll be seeing a lot more of it. I'm all about matching. ;)

 I also thrifted this great little green dress. It's so cute, and just perfect. It has a modest necklane, a great waist, and pockets! I'd been searching for a green dress and was so happy when I found this one. Love at first sight! I seriously can't wait till it warms up so I can wear it without tights and with some cute sandals.

 I may have figured out how to dress for cold weather, but I'm still dreaming of spring!

Old Favorites

 Lately I have been reverting to my old tom boy-ish ways by living in jeans and comfy loose shirts. This black and white striped shirt is an old favorite thrifting find. It is a bat-wing type shirt and is super light weight. It has gotten so much wear since I thrifted it early this summer because it goes so well with everything in my closet. I honestly have to stop myself from wearing it every other day.

 With comfort as my main objective I paired my favorite striped shirt with some straight leg dark wash blue jeans. These jeans are also my favorite pair of jeans. I used to live in my skinny jeans, but I fell in love with the fit of this pair because of the more relaxed fit. They're Levi's from JCP.

To finish off this outfit of favorites I added my matching emerald cardigan from Target and my emerald flats from Old Navy, both of which are very old. It's probably time to search for replacements but I haven't been able to find too many things in this color. Which is a shame because this shade of green is just so pretty and is easy to wear all year round.

Roadtrip Wear

I took a few days off from blogging while I was enjoying the holidays and spend some time with family, but now that I'm home I wanted to get back to blogging and share a new outfit post. 

Because I only took pictures of one outfit for my whole vacation.

sorry, but I'm a slacker.

 This is pretty typical of what I try to wear for a road trip. I always try to keep comfort in mind. Jeans are kind of a no brainer for comfort so I just added in a really comfortable top and my new black booties. Completely comfortable, and still (sort of) put together.

That place has it all you guys, no joke. ;)

 Anyway now that Christmas is over I am looking forward to the New Year. It's crazy that it is already almost 2014. This year went by SO fast. This blog has come a long way in 2013 and that makes me super excited for 2014 too. Anyway, I'm just rambling now.

Fill In The Blank

 Outfits like this one are super easy. You can pretty much get away with pairing anything up with a black maxi skirt with some burnt caramel colored shoes and accessories. The top you wear is the fill in the blank part. You can easily make this casual or dressy depending on the top.  That's probably why I have two black maxi skirts I've been living in this summer. They just go with anything.  This one is cotton so it's also really comfortable for the hot weathered Texas days, but the cut makes it a little more interesting than your average black maxi. I bought it from target a couple of months ago.

 

 The wedges were a gift from my mother in law from around the time of our wedding last year. They are from JcPenney, and are the best shoes ever. I'm not a high heel type of girl. There are just very few occasions when I need to wear them. Due to this I'm not very good at walking in heels either. Thus I tend to gravitate more towards wedges when looking for shoes with a little lift. I have another pair I bought from target that I just wobble around on when I wear them and so I avoid wearing them even though they're really cute shoes. No one wants to look cute but roll their ankle, ya know?

Anyway, I don't wobble around in these wedges and they are really comfortable to stand in. The color is spot on to match my favorite thrifted belt so that probably makes me a little biased as well ;)

 This top was also bought from target, but it was several years ago. It's sort of a geometric tribal print and has black, white, forest green, and a tan-ish gold color that makes it the perfect print to pair up with black and brown. It also has a racer-back so it's the perfect casual comfy top.

This bangle is another favorite item I've had from years. It was given to me from my mom, which was so cool because I'd always loved it. It's made of wood and matches my belt and shoes to the T. My mom has good taste, what can I say?

The Yellow Dress

 I was never a yellow person. Growing up yellow was always my least favorite color. Maybe it's because it reminded me of bananas and I never was a banana person either. Now that I'm older I've realized that yellow, and bananas aren't all that bad. Actually yellow has become one of my favorite colors. This dress is definitely one of my favorites, the bow-tie neck and the color just make me feel feminine and cheery. Just to top it all off I threw on my oxfords from target and some maiden braids.

 The cardigan was purchased from target a few years ago. The belt is my favorite thrifted belt. The socks were stolen from my husband. :)

 I have to admit that while styling this outfit I kept trying to add layers. I'm so ready for fall. I've just always been more of a fall person (which is really hard when you live in Texas), and this dress has a lot of potential for fall colors and layers.

 Today it got up to 106 degrees here in Austin, so I guess adding a cardigan on top of this dress was just wishful thinking (which is why I'm not even wearing it in most of these pictures).
