From Where I Stand

I don't really remember where I came across the concept of "From Where I Stand", but chances are it was either Instagram or Pinterest. The idea is really pretty simple. You take a picture of your feet from where you are standing. This pictures can be used to capture a few different things such as one's outfit, one's shoes, and literally where you are standing.
These are really fun to look back on after you have begun to collect a few in your phone. I find that I take mine whenever I am taking Zane out so these recent FWIS pictures all have the same background but they're even more special when you have some from when you were at the beach or standing on some snazzy tile.
I have a lot of fun taking these, and it's actually neat to see them all together here.
I may have to make it a point to take them more often.
Have you ever taken a From Where I Stand photo?
What do you think about this sort of selfie?

Last Days of Autumn

One of my most favorite things about autumn is the leaves changing into firey hues. They didn't even begin changing around here until late November. I've always thought of December as the beginning of winter so it seems strange to be seeing these beautiful colors still peppering the trees. Many have begun to shed their leaves so I decided to capture a few last photos of autumn before all the trees are bare. I definitely feel like I got to see so much more fall colors this year. It was pretty wonderful! This whole fall was actually pretty great, and it flew by. I know that I should expect the same from winter. Time to switch gears in to all things winter and Christmas. Goodbye fall.

A year apart.

I was looking through old Instagram photos when I realized I posted pictures of the same tree exactly 52 weeks apart. kind of a weird coincidence, but it's interesting to compare the two photos.

Happy first day of October!

home decor bits and pieces

I don't think this is the first time I've shared a few snapshots of parts of my apartment. I like seeing people's places. Someone's home can tell a lot about a person. I'm not sure what my apartment says about me. It's full of items that were handed down, thrifted, or if possible made by hand. The things that were purchased from a store are usually modified in someway. I guess I like to think that everything can be repurposed or reused in a way that can make it work for someone, no matter their taste.

Another thing I like to keep in mind when decorating is to decorate with purpose. I like to think about what is practical and also looks good. One of my favorite things right now is a wall with all of our hats hanging together. This is an easy way to save space with storage and also they add texture and interest to an otherwise boring wall.

This place is by no means anywhere close to being ready to share a home tour or anything like that. In some ways our home will always be a work in process (which i suppose most homes are), but I am constantly rearranging and changing things here and there. I'm always trying to convince Anthony to help me paint something or move something from one room to the next. Lately I've been wishing I could build my own honeycomb shelves (gonna need your help with that one dad) and paint my coffee table white.

What inspires your home decor?

a little reminder...

I created the above image by editing a photo using the beautiful mess app (from the itunes store), the photo was snapped by me on a walk with Zane this morning. We've gotten to spend more and more time outside lately since summer has arrived. it's been pretty awesome :)

Sometimes I have to remind myself just how lucky I am. Life can be pretty great.

Oasis, Austin

Tonight me and the hubs met up with my parents and enjoyed a nice dinner at Oasis in North Austin for  Anthony's birthday (which was May 11th, he turned 24!). We had an awesome time and enjoyed a dinner with a view!

The food was so delicious as were the margaritas ;) catching up with family is always nice especially when you have such a beautiful view ;)

1. This is part of the wall arrangement I've been working on in our living room. The large painting is from my parents, The small framed painting is thrifted, the A was a diy inspired by pinterest, and the little heart is a spray painted valentines tin. :)
2. Some firewood and my matching shoes!
3. Murray has discovered the joys of sun bathing.
4. A thrifted butterfly wall hanging that reminds me of my mom.
5. some flour-less peanut butter cookies that were quite the hit.
6. An owl painting I finished last year but never shared.
7. Some pretty sweet smelling trees.
8. a vintage coffee tin I thrifted.
9. my growing globe collection that was recently moved to our bedroom.

These are all just snapshots from daily life. I made it a goal to try to take more pictures and really document the little things that make life so great. It may sound silly but instagram is really helpful in helping to create pretty pictures from almost any picture you take. I like to challenge myself to be a little more inspire by the world around me and it really helps me to appreciate the little things.

What inspires you?
