In the Navy

 I have to confess that when I got this dress I was only thinking about layering with it in the fall because it will be so perfect, but I've already been wearing it regularly so maybe it is just a new favorite. I love that it is simple but has a little bit of detail in the small polka dot pattern. I also love that the fabric is lightweight, perfect for layering with tights and sweaters. Navy is also also one of my new favorite colors. It's sort of like olive clothing because it can act as a neutral. I've added a few navy pieces to my closet and I think it's going to be a popular color for me this fall.

 I decided to keep my styling pretty simple. I added my trusty brown wide brim fedora, my brown loafers, and some turquoise jewelry for a no fuss outfit.

The back also has a cute detail which I forgot to get a shot of so I'll have to remember to get one next time because that's another reason why I had to get this lovely dress.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! Both me and my husband are working today but he was sweet enough to spoil me with some flowers and chocolates so I'm happy anyway. I have the best valentine ;)

Today seemed like the perfect day to debut this red dress I thrifted recently. It has this cute cut-out detail and it's also incredibly comfortable. I'm not usually a fan of red toned clothing but I've been trying to step out of my comfort zone with clothing a bit this year so I tried it on and fell in love. 

It is sleeveless, so I know I will get to wear it a lot when the weather finally warms up too.

I also couldn't help but have a little more fun by adding these polka dotted tights from Target. I love polka dots so it made these cute tights so hard to resist. The hat, cardigan, and shoes are also from Target. The belt was thrifted :)

Lack of Color

 I was looking through the outfits I've shared so far this year and I was pretty surprised to see such a lack of color. I haven't really been shy about the fact I've been loving neutrals lately, but I love color too! I've never been big on loud or bright colors, I guess I'm just more of a pastel person.

 Something about pastels has always seemed a bit more understated and feminine. 

Mint is by far my very favorite pastel shade, but I've come to realize I'm drawn to most pastel shades. Pastel pink is the only pink I like. Pastel yellow is just so cheery. Just trust me when I say pastel colors are easier to wear if you're a neutral lover like me.

 This mint shirt from JCP was one of my first pastel purchases, it's easy to dress up or dress down, and duh, it's mint. This cardigan from Target is one of my favorite sweaters to pair with mint, the colors look so good together and the polka dots make it even more fun!

 My pastel orange sunglasses are also from Target, but I've already spotted some at Goodwill while thrifting. They're some of my favorite sunglasses because the orange is light enough to almost seem neutral, thus they go with nearly everything.

 The gray jeans are an old pair from Old Navy that I've had since my high school days. I love having gray jeans because they're a fun neutral to swap out instead of blue jeans. If you don't already own a pair definitely take the plunge. Gray jeans are a bit easier to dress up than blue jeans and they go with everything!

Spotty Record

 Well winter finally found Texas. We've been dealing with a lot colder temperature than any one around here is used to. We even saw a little bit of snow, (more like sleet, but to us that is snow). Needless to say I have been living in jeans instead of dresses. I have been putting all my favorite jeans through the regular rotation when I pulled out these gray and white polka dotted jeans I purchased from Target last year. I've only worn them on the blog once, but it was a bit before I began sharing regular outfit posts, so I decided to incorporate them into a more recent outfit.

 As with most outfits I've been wearing lately I wanted to keep things comfortable and simple. What better way to do that than by pair these polka dotted pants with a simple beige sweater (also from target),  and even more simple black ankle boots (from JCP).

I also had to add in my lovely rust coat for both color and warmth, (from JCP last year). Outfits like this usually ending up being my favorites because I love no fuss comfort. I felt perfectly put together, and still feminine, but true to my tomboy roots.

Menswear Love

 It may come as no surprise that I like menswear inspired clothing. It is after all, the next step up for a tomboy, right? The thing is, guys clothing is always so comfortable. It's also a pretty easy formula too. Pants, Button-up, Blazer, Loafers. done.

Brilliant, right?

 The funny thing is, this is the only blazer I own. I got it in December and since then I keep asking myself, "how did I ever live without a blazer in my closet?" They are so handy when you can't figure out what to wear. They make you look put together with little effort. I've been looking for an awesome tweed or brown plaid blazer at thrift stores but haven't found the one yet. fingers crossed!

 I did however thrift both this polka dotted button up and these lovely brown loafers. Both of these items get worn a lot.

These olive colored jeans have also proved to be a worthwhile addition to my closet because they go with everything. Olive is my new favorite neutral!

Hallow's Eve

 Seems like it's been ages since I've shared an outfit post. I've gotten so used to doing them! As you may be able to tell this outfit is entirely inspired by Halloween. I won't be dressing up this year but that doesn't mean I can't get in the spirit of things! Halloween was always my mom's favorite holiday and she always went out of her way to make it special for me and my siblings. It's because of that that Halloween gets me so excited. And seriously this holiday is centered around candy! What's not to love?

 I know polka dots isn't scary or anything but you can't really get more Halloween then black, white, and orange. I really loving pairing these colors together and have stopped myself before for fear of looking like I'm celebrating the wrong time of year. The nice thing is I can just swap out my cardigan for a different color ;)

 Both the peter pan collar polka dot dress and the braided white belt were thrifted. The tights, and cardigan are from Target. The shoes are also from target but are much older. 

The acorn necklace is from American Eagle Outfitters and is super old as well.

 I'm not really doing anything very "Halloween" this year, but that's fine with me. I have to catch up on The Walking Dead and When I do, I have Ghostbusters 1 and Ghostbusters 2 to fall back on. 

 I'm still having a hard time believing October is coming to and end. The days have just been flying by. I'm not complaining though. I love November! I have both my birthday and Thanksgiving to look forward to and then the Christmas Holidays will be here before we know it. This really is my favorite time of year!

Port Aransas and Another Thrifted Outfit

 This is the only outfit pictures I got my whole trip because we were so busy and also because it rained soo much. We still managed to fit in beach time, some fishing, delicious and super fresh seafood and lots of quality time together. All in all it was exactly how we wanted to celebrate our anniversary. :)

 I'll definitely be sharing more about our trip in another post, but for now onto my outfit.

The shirt, shorts, belt and purse were all thrifted. woo! I love mostly thrifted outfits, just makes me feel so accomplished. ha! Both the hat and the shades were purchased from target. My shoes are my super old pair of Toms that I have refused to throw away. They are army green and it just happens to be a super versatile neutral color. I love them so but they have definitely seen better days. They even have a huge hole by my big toe. :( You'll probably be happy to know that I have purchased a new pair, but I'm still not entirely sure if I can toss these guys. Anyone know a good diy to recover these guys?

This bag was actually one of my more recently thrifting scores. We stopped by the Goodwill in Corpus Christi and I found this bag which is really so perfect for me. I love this color and the simplicity of the bag. I also like that it has some structure to it and it matches my favorite thrifted belt. Double score. I'll be sharing my other awesome finds in some upcoming outfit posts!

dog days

 I've been meaning to do another outfit post for a while because the weather has been really beautiful lately. It's hot, but it's not 100+ yet so for Texas, it's nice out. So I begged Anthony to help me with a few pictures outside and Zane tagged along to enjoy the sunny day.

 Everything I am wearing in these photos was thrifted with the exception of the sandals which were purchased from target appx. eight years ago, and the sunglasses which I also bought a couple years ago from walmart. This outfit is actually a dress worn as top, with the skirt belted over it, because the dress is actually a bit short. I love the pattern and the peter pan collar on the polka dot dress so I try to figure ways to still wear it. This is a favorite color combination right now as well. Orange and light blue just feel summery to me, and of course i'm still obsessed with black and white.
