Winter Grunge

 This time of year when it's chilly outside I find it hard not to resort back to my old tom boyish ways. I just love T-shirts and jeans and I always will. Throw in some boots, flannel, and my husband's beanie and I'm one happy girl!

 What's the one thing that could make me like this outfit even more? The fact that the beatles T-shirt, black flannel button-up, and the olive anorak style coat are all thrifted items.

The jeans are my favorite pair from JCP and the brown lace-up boots are from Target. 

This type of layered outfit is my favorite easy weekend type wear in the winter. You can take the coat off when you're inside and you're still comfortable!

Dressed in Holiday Style

You just can't go wrong with wearing plaid around Christmas. There is just something so classic and timeless about it and it just seems to go hand in hand with this time of year.

This beige plaid skirt was thrifted late last month and I knew then that it would get a lot a wear time this December. It's a really great length and because it's neutral it pairs up well with a lot of items in my closet. This was definitely an exciting thrifting find.

I decided to wear it with my button up denim dress (worn as a top) because denim is also so timeless and easy to wear as well. I added my moccasins to the ensemble to complete the woodsy feel, and was pretty happy with the outcome. This outfit is so comfortable and casual but could easily be adjusted and made to be a little more dressy with some heels and pearls.

I do have to admit I regretted wearing the headband with this outfit, they never fail to give me a headache. Sorry headbands, I give up on you.

Winter Basics

 So I haven't done an outfit post in some time, that wasn't intentional it's just that my photographer (my husband) has been dealing with finals week so he didn't have a lot of extra time to take a ton of outfit pictures, which is pretty understandable. So sorry for the little outfit hiatus.

 I really wanted to share one of the plaid shirts I thrifted during my last big thrifting haul. It looks sort of yellow in these photos but it is actually a beige gingham print. It's really perfect for layering with all different color sweaters because it's neutral. It is also is incredibly comfortable, which is a must in my wardrobe if I'm actually going to wear it.

 I decided to stick with comfort for this outfit but I didn't want to look frumpy so it paired it with girly brown felt thrifted hat,  my skinny jeans from JCP and my favorite brown lace up boots from target to balance the shirt out a bit.

 I wanted to add a little more to make this outfit feel a bit more festive for the holiday season so I added a red scarf my grandma crocheted to give it that Christmas-y feeling.

This outfit was both warm and comfortable. I love adding little details to my outfits to make them a bit more fun.

Mixing Patterns Part 2

 This denim dress was one of my most recent thrifting finds. I've been looking for one for a while and this was one of two that I found the other day. The other one was sleeveless and cute but ended up being too small. This one fit much better and was much more winter friendly as I saw endless layering potential.

 I of course had to make this outfit a bit warmer so I wore a striped thrifted shirt underneath the dress along with my black leggings and brown zip up boots, both from Target.

I decided to add the scarf, which is actually my husband's from forever ago, and the belt at the last second and I'm glad I did. I don't mix patterns very often, but it's fun to do once in a while.

I obviously also like doing this with black and white, it just simplifies things a little. 

I loved that it added a little plaid and red to make this outfit just the right amount of Christmasy. 

I loved styling up this dress and can't wait to wear it more this winter. I'm also likely to just keep this scarf for myself. pretty cute, right?

Fancy Flannel

There are a few things to me that make this time of year feel so special. You may be able to tell by this blog's name that autumn is my favorite time of year. I love fall for so many reasons. I love hot drinks when it's chilly out. I love festive pumpkins and ghords. I love Halloween and Thanksgiving. I love candy apples and candy corn. I love all things orange. And maybe most importantly I love flannel.

 You may think flannel is more of a grunge thing, and yeah I do like it for grungey reasons, but this is about fancy flannel. Fancy flannel keep you super warm during colder temperatures and stays classy.

 This flannel is a recent purchase from Target. Both the satchel and oxfords are also from target.

The gray skinnies are from old navy several years ago. The belt is my one of my very favorite thrifted finds.

 I love shirts like this one because they're very easy to dress up or dress down. This outfit is somewhere in the middle of the two. I can see myself wearing this with heels or with my converse.

 The sad truth is this is actually the only flannel shirt I have, but I'll definitely be keeping my eye out for more while thrifting. I would love a green flannel as well.
