Independence Day

Cardigan, Earrings, & Flats: Target // Dress: JcPenney // Belt: From another dress

This summer is just flying by! I can hardly believe the fourth of July is already here!
I wanted to put together a festive outfit for today and although I wish I had a red cardigan to go with this dress I like how this look came out. It's festive without being too obvious.  It's hard to wear red, white, and blue without looking like an American flag, and I think this look is a subtle nod at the holiday.
I don't have anywhere to wear this look to, but that's okay! I'm just hoping to spend some time with the hubby grilling and relaxing and possibly watching fireworks from out patio. Sounds like the perfect low-key fourth of July to me :)
What are you plans for the 4th?

30 x 30: Ten

Hat, Leggings, Necklace, & Cardigan: Target // Scarf: A Gift // Belt: Thrifted // Boots: JcPenney

This outfit marks me being one-third through my 30 x 30 challenge. It's hard to believe I'm only ten outfits into the challenge and that it's now spanned across three months. That was never my intention but if I'm being honest, this challenge is a lot more difficult than I expected it to be. It's not always easy to be inspired to create new and exciting outfits from the thirty items I selected for this challenge. This outfit is probably one of my favorites so far, so I think that accessorizing has a lot to do with it for me. I guess I need to kick myself in gear in the accessories department, and also with being consistent in taking outfit photos. I'm going to blame that part on winter ;)

30 x 30: One

Cardigan: Target // Shirt & Belt: Thrifted // Jeggings: JcPenney // Ankle Boots c/o Metrostyle

This look kicks off my 30 by 30 challenge. This outfit is pretty typical everyday wear for me. I love combining black and white prints with cognac brown. As far as being more creative with the items I have in my closet - this outfit isn't much of a stretch. Actually, despite never having posted this outfit before I'm pretty sure I've worn this (or something super similar to it) before. For the next outfit I will definitely try to utilize these clothing items in a different way than I usually do... although that's easier said than done. I'm still hoping that this challenge will leave me looking at my wardrobe in a new way, but I know that I'll have to force myself to create new looks instead of slightly different versions of outfits I've already worn... This may prove difficult since I've already styled a lot of these clothing items several times on HN before. I suppose that's why it's called a challenge, right?

Wearing White

Cardigan & Wedges: Target // Jeans, Blouse, & Clutch: JcPenney

I recently added this white blouse to my closet in lieu of a tradition white button-up. I love a good plain white button up but I loved the tuxedo vibe of this top that makes it a little bit dressier than the alternative. I don't own a lot of white clothing but I'm hoping to change that. In the past I've always been worried of getting white clothing dirty because I'm not always the cleaniest of people, but I figure that's why bleach was invented, right? I can't wait to style this blouse when the weather is warmer with some blue jean cut-offs and some minimalist sandals - the perfect simple spring get-up!
How do you wear white?

Leopard Print Slip-Ons

I have been wearing slip on shoes for years now. It began with an obsession with slip on vans, then some Keds, and finally Toms along with various other generic versions...It's safe to say that I am a fan of slip-ons. They are perfect for a girl like me who is big on comfort and loves a casual pair of shoes to wear for everyday use. I'm usually a fan of plain black shoes but I couldn't pass up this pair of leopard print slip-ons. They're just the right amount of girly and sporty all in one pair of shoes.

I love how these leopard print slip on sneakers look paired with my simple black dress. This is perfect 'everyday' outfit in my opinion. It's cute, somewhat girly, but it's also practical and comfortable. It would be perfect for running errands or wearing on a road trip.

Dress - Kohl's
Cardigan - Target
Slip-Ons - Old Navy

I love all kinds of sneakers. Lately I've been wanting to get some low top converse to add to my closet as well. They used to be my favorites!

Take A Chance

I'm not usually one to grab the sleeveless, kinda short, kinda tight dress, but the print on this dress got me, and I thought why not? I've always been a bit self conscious about my body but I definitely shouldn't let that stop me from buying a dress I like. I have to say that I'm glad that I did because I ended up really liking how this outfit looks, it feels very me. It's got a boho type print, tons of neutrals, and a little bit of thrifted something. I also curled my hair for the first time in forever and I missed it so so much.

I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone a little bit because I know this dress will end up being a really great piece for wearing leggings this fall and winter. I love light-weight dresses for transitioning into cooler weather because they are just too easy to layer with!

I also think it will be perfect for wearing over my swimsuit this summer. It turns out that taking a chance on this dress may have really paid off. This really makes me reconsider other items I may have looked over in this past... I'm one of those people who always passes up something and later wishes I hadn't.
