Halloween Garland

I love crafting around the holidays, and Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I have been wanting to figure out an easy craft that one could easily do with kids, and also with items nearly everyone already has on hand. Simple projects are definitely my favorite and this one is SUPER simple.

 You will need:

cardboard to create your triangle bunting (I used bits of cardboard and also a cut up cereal box), yarn or twine to attach the bunting to, tape to secure the cardboard to your string, either construction paper or paint will do for decorating the cardboard, and finally a sharpie to create the jack-o-lantern faces on the orange bunting pieces. Super simple. The process is pretty self explanatory and easy to mix up for other holidays or occasions.

There you have it, a super easy way to get festive for Halloween (or fall!) with items you most likely have on hand.

Crocheted Heart Garland

 This is a diy project I've been interested in doing for a few years but had never gotten around to it. This year I came upon this pin, which explains how to crochet a heart. This pattern was so simple that even I could read it, and so I gave it a try. The pattern came out as I hoped and I decided that I'd make this the year I finally crocheted some heart garland for Valentine's Day (and with one day to spare!)

 I crocheted 10 pink hearts, and 9 red hearts using the heart pattern I found on pinterest. 

I made the garland by chaining 20 stitches, attaching the heart with a double crochet stitch and the center of the top of the heart, separated each heart with 8 chain stitches. I repeated this until the end, and finished the garland with another 20 chain stitches.

 This project was simple enough for a beginner crocheter, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. There's nothing like finally accomplishing something you've wanted to do for so long.

I just love making homemade holiday decorations, and even more so when I can crochet them! I love making garland specifically, because it's so simple to customize to whatever holiday you like. 

I hope I can keep decorating with this heart garland for many Valentine's Days to come :)

Christmas Ribbon Garland DIY

One of my goals for December was to really get into celebrating Christmas and the holidays because I know that time is going to fly by. I really want to enjoy the holiday season and part of that for me is decorating for the holidays. The thing is I don't own a lot of Christmas decorations. I have a teeny tiny tree packed with ornaments, one string of lights, our stockings, and a wreath. I've done a few holiday crafting projects and I was looking to do more. I came across this felted Christmas Garland on Elise's blog. I didn't have any felt on hand but I did have a lot of Christmas ribbon that my sister had given to me.
The idea is really simple. Cut a ribbon the length you want your garland to be, add loops to the end using knots if you intend to hang it, I did this just in case,set it aside. Then take your remaining ribbon and cut it in smaller pieces (6-8inches) and tie it around the long piece of ribbon. Push pieces closer together and fill the length of your ribbon. 

I like how it turned out and it was a really easy and quick little project although I did run out of ribbon so I may add more in the future. Either way I'd definitely like to make similar garland themed for other holidays!

DIY Autumn Owl Garland

It's no secret that I like owls, and as luck would have it they just so happen to be really great fall decor along with pumpkins and pretty autumn leaves. I've put together a really simple DIY project using household items to bring this cute fall decor into your home!

This would also be a great project for kids :)

What you will need:

1. Toliet paper rolls

 (I used 7 in my garland, but you can add or subtract based on how long you want your garland to be, mine is about 4ft long).

2. a hole punch (the single kind, not three ring)

3. scissors

4. marker

5. yarn or ribbon

(construction paper, stickers, or extra pom poms for your garland could also be fun additions)

 

1. Begin with a regular toliet paper roll (you can also use paper towel rolls cut in half)

2. using your thumb put a dent in the middle of the roll till the side make two points

3. make another dent on the other side of the roll on top of the previous one to shape your owl's head

4 &5. unfold your owl and grab your hole punch, use it to make a hole on either side of the owl's head using the points as reference

6. decorate your owl using whatever materials you have, ribbon, construction paper or even wrapping paper would work. Then draw on the details like the eyes, beak and wings.

7. string your owls together by threading your yarn or ribbon through the punched out holes.

8. hang your garland, space out your owls, and enjoy.
