My First Mother's Day

I'd like to begin this post by saying happy Mother's Day to all the mamas out there, a specifically to my mom, my mother in law, my grandmas, and my sister (who is celebrating her first Mother's Day as well). I don't think I ever fully appreciated Mother's Day (or Father's Day) until this year. Being a parent is hard but it's also an incredible experience. So to all the mamas out there I just want to say you're doing a great job and you deserve this day of recognition and celebration.

 I'm writing this post ahead of time but my plans for today are to have a low key day with Anthony and Hunter. There's a pizza place in town I've been wanting to try or maybe I'll stop by my new favorite bakery. I've been given free reign to celebrate however I want :) The most important thing to me is that I spend it with my two favorite guys!

I've thought a lot lately about the kind of mother I want to be. I hope to have a lot of the qualities my mother, my mother in law, my grandmothers, and my sister have as mothers. They're creative, nurturing, warm, supportive, inspiring, and they always give it their all. I hope I can be all of those things for Hunter. I know I'm not perfect, but I'll always give it my all for him.

Well it has been a while since I shared an outfit post hasn't it? It's not that I haven't wanted to its that I still don't fit in a lot of my clothes and I figure it's probably boring for you all to see the same clothing over and over. On the other hand this blog does serve as a journal of sorts and the truth of the matter is I'm wearing a lot of the same clothes frequently, and there's nothing wrong with that! If anything it's probably good for me to share how I'm transitioning back into my wardrobe post partum. I'm still wearing most of the things from my maternity wardrobe. I made it a point to purchase pieces that I believed I would still get use out of after Hunter arrived. This top is one of those items. It's very flowy so tucking it in a bit keeps it from looking too much like a maternity top. 

My wardrobe is still a bit limited so outfit posts won't be as regular as they once were but I still enjoy taking outfit photos when I can so I'll still be sharing them from time to time.

Chicken Salad (with grapes!)

It's been a long time since I've shared a recipe, and even longer since I've shared a recipe that wasn't a dessert but I felt compelled to share this one because it's a good one to have in your arsenal for spring/summer. 

I've shared another chicken salad recipe in the past but this one is entirely different. My sister introduced me to it after she found this pin. Like I often do, she altered the recipe and I love the chicken salad her way. Although I'm sure the dried cherries or even dried cranberries would be really good in this version too! 

Here's the recipe we used: 

1 pound of chicken (I diced mine but you could shred it instead if you like)

1 cup of celery, chopped 

1/2 cup of diced red onion 

1 cup of diced red grapes (seedless of course!)

1 cup of mayonnaise

1/2 teaspoon of salt

1/2 teaspoon of pepper 

Mix everything together and enjoy with crackers or in a sandwich. Either way is delicious! I love eating mine with these cracked pepper and olive oil triscuits. So good!

Home Sweet Home

We've been in our house now for over a month! Time has just flown by! We're taking our time getting settled in more than ever before. I've yet to hang anything on the walls even. I'm just trying to be very intentional with every decorating decision I make, and I'm really enjoying  the decorating process.

 In the past I've never looked at the big picture when making decor purchases, it's always been a decision made spur of the moment. I'd see something, I'd like it, I'd buy it. I'd bring it home and whatever I bought wouldn't quite go with the vision I had. With this house I'm doing my best to avoid that situation by taking my time with the process. 

Since I live in a small house I want to keep things as bright and minimal as possible to keep our home from feeling small and cluttered. I've done this by painting most of the house white. The bedroom walls, living room walls, hallway walls, bathroom walls, and kitchen cabinets are all white. I love how bright and clean it makes our home feel. Despite all this there are still some major changes I'd like to make - most of them in the living room. Almost everything in it is a hand me down or purchased spur of the moment and almost all of it is dark. The livingroom is my least favorite room in the house. My parents did give me those mint pillows pictured above and they do make me hate the livingroom a little bit less ;) 

Every room (and also the exterior of the house) is still very much a work in progress. Every week we've been working on something. Lately the focus has been on the outside but I'm rearraniging and reconfiguring each room when Hunter lets me. I've also been making a mental wish list and project list of things to get/do to get this place where we want it. I doubt I'll be done anytime soon but I'm okay with that. I'm enjoying spending my free time working on home improvement projects. 

I'll be snapping pictures of our progress and documenting the changes here on the blog every now and then. Since I'm taking my time I can't tell you how frequent these types of blog posts will be but I'll probably be sharing bits and pieces on Instagram as well!
